Arts Mid-Hudson (AMH) is excited to announce our 2025 Members Gallery Exhibition & Sticker Competition Expressive Imprint: The Sticker Design Competition Art that Explores the Boundaries of Creativity! This exhibition will feature artwork that depicts concepts of creativity, expression, and artistic freedom whether through abstract imagery, bold design, or storytelling, we are looking for pieces that push the boundaries of imagination and showcase your unique artistic voice. Gallery visitors will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite artwork throughout the exhibition. The winning design, selected by popular vote, will be announced at the Closing Reception and will be turned into exclusive AMH stickers that will be shared at events we attend.

All Arts Mid-Hudson members including 2-D, 3-D, and performing artists and writers are encouraged to submit artworks that correlate with the concept of creativity, expression, and artistic freedom. If you have a concept for an artist talk or performance around this topic we encourage you to submit those as well. All submissions will be accepted using this form:

Submission Requirements:
 

  • All artistic disciplines are eligible for submission including, but not limited to, visual, performing, written, digital and video, traditional, and experimental mediums. 
  • We ask for a minimum of two submissions for 2-D, 3-D, and written work.
  • 2-D or 3-D hanging artwork may not exceed 17 inches in any dimension including framing.
  • Written works must fit on one 8 ½ x 11 page at 12pt font and will be printed by AMH and mounted on foam core.
  • Sculptures to be displayed on a podium will be accepted on a first come first serve basis until no more space is available. Sculptures may not exceed 15 inches in any dimension.
  • Video and digital work, if accepted, will be displayed on a monitor in our gallery.
  • Proposals for performance based mediums are welcome. After you submit your proposal, AMH staff will reach out to set up a consultation to determine if the proposal can be accommodated.
  • This show is restricted to members of Arts Mid-Hudson. You may check your membership status by contacting Arts Mid-Hudson’s Office. You can become a member here: https://artsmidhudson.org/become-a-member/
  • All artists who submit wall hanging work will have one piece accepted to the Members' Show (please note restrictions on 3-D and performance based work listed above). 
  • All submissions must be suitable to be hung in a public gallery at the discretion of the selection committee and Arts Mid-Hudson.
  • Arts Mid-Hudson will take every caution with the artwork. The artist understands that Arts Mid-Hudson does not provide insurance for artwork and agrees to exhibit the work with this stipulation. 
  • The prices listed reflect retail pricing. If artwork is sold, Arts Mid-Hudson will receive a 25% commission.

Program Overview:
Dutchess County established the Dutchess County Poet Laureate in 2016 to honor local outstanding poets, integrate poetry into the community, enrich the education of our young people, and enhance the County’s position as a cultural center in the Mid-Hudson region. Robert Kelly served as the first Dutchess County Poet Laureate and Stephanie JT Russell served in 2023 and 2024. We are now welcoming new nominations for 2025.

  • Appointment is for a one-year term, allowing for one additional consecutive one-year term based on the availability of the poet.
  • This position is an honorary appointment without salary.
  • The Poet Laureate will have a webpage on the AMH website with a live link on the Dutchess County Government website.



Nominations:
Nominations may come from individuals or organizations within or outside Dutchess County. Poets may self nominate.

Duties:
The Poet Laureate should shape the position in their own way. Duties typically include public activities with schools, community groups, and the press during the year and contact with writers and readers by mail, email and/or through a website. Other duties will include:

  • Presentations of his/her poetry at the State of the County Address in 2024, usually scheduled in the first quarter of the year. 
  • Presentations at other appropriate public events, such as National Poetry Month in April.
  • Advocacy of poetry in the community, including, but not limited to, bringing poetry to school children, projects or programs that promote the appreciation of poetry, or poetry workshops with underserved populations in the community.

AMH strives toward broad inclusion and true access to arts and cultural programming for all. AMH strongly encourages thoughtful outreach to underserved audiences. These are groups who may have limited access to art programs, services, or resources due to location, race, economic status, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, religion, disability, or other demonstrable factors. Some groups underserved by the arts in Dutchess County may include Black, Latino, Indigenous, Asian, People of Color, LGBTQ+, disabled, elder, youth, rural, and/or low-income audiences.

Criteria:
Nominees for the Dutchess County Poet Laureate must:

  • Reside in Dutchess County for at least two years.
  • Be a published author with a body of high quality work.
  • Be comfortable in the performance of poetry in public.
  • Be interested in presenting a sense of the community through poetry.
  • Be willing to advocate and educate people about poetry.


Review Process:
All nominees for the Dutchess County Poet Laureate will be reviewed by a selection panel consisting of published poetry writers and community members. Using the criteria listed above, the panel will make a recommendation for official approval by the Dutchess County Executive's office.
